Choosing between a house and an apartment is one of the most personal decisions we face in the search for real estate.
Apartments: A Convenient Option
Apartments dominate the real estate market.
It’s undoubtedly much easier (and more affordable) to find an apartment with most of the essential features you might need.
Condominiums generally offer much more security than houses.
Maintenance of facades, gardening, security, and other shared elements are funded among co-owners or residents, which means you don’t have to worry much about external property arrangements.
Living with many neighbors can bring problems of coexistence.
Sharing walls with neighbors implies being more responsible with the permitted hours for noise, music, and social gatherings within our home.
Generally, apartments are almost the only option when looking for real estate in the city center.
If living in central or highly commercial areas is important to you, an apartment is likely the safe choice.
Houses: A Private Oasis
Houses tend to be concentrated in the outskirts of cities.
Although they tend to be a bit more expensive than most apartments, this comes with its benefits.
Living in a house provides more privacy, as you are further away from neighbors.
They usually have green spaces, which are very limited in apartments.
You can practically customize it to your liking, as long as it doesn’t belong to a condominium.
Maintenance and cleaning of a house tend to be more labor-intensive than in an apartment.
This may be the best option if you have a very large family and need spacious areas.
Deciding Factors
Ultimately, choosing between a house or an apartment depends on what we will prioritize once we settle into our home.
Is it more important for us to have amenities (such as a gym) at our disposal, or are we not the type to use common areas?
Would we like to have a garden, or is a balcony with a good view sufficient?
When we have a clear idea of what type of property best suits our lifestyle, we’ll be closer to making the big decision.
